When the performing arts opened up to me about fifteen years ago, I found that the stage itself was not for me… I would rather write than perform… but the intimacy and empowerment of performance was something that mesmerised me. Initially through Spoken Word, this evolved to stage production, producing music for the stage and DJ’ing at events.

After a trip to Grenada and Trinidad in 2009 with a bridge camera, I came back and realised I wanted a camera that would allow me to capture the beauty as I see it… I bought my first Nikon not long after. My proximity to the arts soon had me upgrading lenses for low light photography. I like to capture what is on the stage as naturally as possible, because the energy, indeed the intimate sharing from words, movement and performance IS the empowerment of the artist, and I see my role as being a facilitator for conveying the sanctity of the stage.

As I photographed more and more artists, soon I was requested to take Lifestyle Portraits, and I’ve found the same energy from muses as I do from the stage.

In my personal life, photography has brought its own mindfulness, not only from the joy working with artists and muses brings me, but sometimes, just carrying the same cameras into the natural world and photographing animals without disturbing them, or capturing the joy I experience from photographing (and playing) my other big passion… basketball.

Passion is indeed the word. It’s not really a passion for photography, but the message or story I’m being trusted with.

With love and thanks to the artists and muses who have supported me.
